A professional qualification is an important step on the road to a good job. What does it involve and how is it obtained?
What is a professional qualification
The National Institute for Education defines a vocational qualification as the ability to carry out a particular work activity or a number of work activities which, taken together, enable a particular occupation to be pursued.
This competence is crucial for employers. From their point of view, it is often sufficient for an employee to demonstrate that he or she has acquired specific competences for a given occupation. However, formal education in the form of, for example, secondary education is no longer required.
As a result, however, professional qualifications can in practice be graded in analogy with traditional studies, i.e. at the level of difficulty of apprenticeship, secondary vocational education with a high school diploma and university education at bachelor’s and master’s level.
The qualification criterion is an examination in which the fulfilment of an assessment standard is assessed. The confirmation that the graduate is fully qualified to perform activities in the chosen field is then the relevant certificate of recognition of professional qualifications.
With this certificate, the candidate can then consider further employment on the labour market. This should be successful in the short term, as the professional qualification ensures adequate preparation and sufficient flexibility.
Vocational qualifications at the European Training Academy
As the European Training Academy is committed to preparing graduates for practical employment in the long term, it also offers vocational qualifications as part of its study programmes. These include:
– Manager/manager of further education
– Lecturer in further education
– Coordinator in the field of information and communication technologies
– Real estate agent
– Career counsellor/career advisor
– Electrical installer/photovoltaic systems installer
This system thus primarily helps graduates to actively reduce unemployment and to find more profitable professional employment. This can be in the form of increasing qualifications, broadening or deepening them. As a result, the vocational qualification system acts as a mechanism for increasing educational attainment in society. This is one of the basic prerequisites for economic, political and social development.
